More and more people are turning to the “Do-It-Yourself” approach when it comes to auto maintenance and repair, and that is a great thing. Handling your own maintenance and repair jobs can definitely help keep costs down as well as make you more aware of possible problems your vehicle may have. Both of these things will help save you money and extend the life of your vehicle greatly.

The tools you use when working on your vehicle are important as well, using the correct tool for the job makes the job go smoothly and greatly cuts down on the number of problems you will run in to.  The one tool that is often overlooked the most in the home toolbox is the oil wrench.  Trying to substitute a different tool for a proper oil filter wrench can lead to some serious problems. You could damage the oil filter adapter or its threading, you could accidentally crush the oil filter itself making it very difficult to remove, or even worse, you could crack or break the oil filter which would cause huge headaches to remove after something like that.

Back in season 4 we did an episode on fluids which showed you how to properly change your oil, as well as several different types of oil filter wrenches you can use. You can take a look at that episode here and be sure to check out the featured products on the page to see the different oil filter wrenches available.

For those of you already doing your own maintenance and repair, keep up the great work! For those of you still trying to decide if you want to or not, jump in! You’ll be surprised just how much money you will save and, after a little practice and repetition, just how easy it can be. Also, don’t forget, that’s why we’re here! Keep on watching and we’ll be with you every step of the way! Happy Motoring!
