  3. motorztv Says:

Olivia Korte (Motorz Girl) was introduced in the 2nd episode of the current (5th) season. She is part of our Motorz family now, but she is not related otherwise.

  4. integraz32lover Says:

No prob, yeah i know how much of a pain editing tons of footage is

  5. XJOJO411 Says:

Olivia, Will you marry me?I’m only 16 but I think we can work it out.

  6. spelunkerd Says:

I don’t disagree with using motor oil on the head bolts, for more uniform torque. But I was a little confused when I learned that NGK spark manufacturers don’t recommend using antiseize, with the point being that lubricant might change the ultimate stress on the plug and associated crush washer. Their point is that lubricant might result in an effective over-torque. Presumably balanced torque throughout the head is the main goal, so it shouldn’t matter much….

  7. 89Carfreak Says:

Thank you for the upload, I love your chanel, love your videos and recommendations, so thank you for that! …If I can just ask; is there a reason why you used cast iron heads instead of alu. heads and didn’t use roller rockers?

  8. T4JZtv Says:

what happened to the sound at 15:11

  9. TheGetawayer Says:

Damn, Olivia you are stunning :D

What are you’re thoughts on RTV around the water passages for the intake manifold? Also, do you plan to make a video about carb tuning?

  19. motorztv Says:

Ok, I see what happened. For some reason after the Sears commercial the audio went to single channel. I’m not sure why you guys don’t hear anything at that point, as you should hear audio coming from at least one speaker. I’ll see if I can fix it — I may have to re-upload a fixed version of the video, though. Thanks for letting us know!

Have you fired the engine yet or will that be in the next video? I noticed you didnt use any sealant but oil on the bottom heads bolts that run into the water jackets. Or did you just not show it? Very important step to note so water doesnt seep out.

  49. brandon1997bmx Says:

After installing the intake what do you do with the blue tape on the oil pressure journal ?? leave it there ??

  63. dawg1157 Says:

Instead of RTV for the gaskets could I use Indian Head Shellac?

  64. BigChevyFTW Says:

im not trying to knock the video. its not a good idea to use moly lube on the cam bearings because they can delay oil to the rest of the engines components during initial start up.i learned this the hard way now i onl;y use the moly on the lifter bottoms and the lobes oil on the bearing surfaces.

  65. BigChevyFTW Says:

yes i like it better then rtv i only use rtv for the intakes water ports and across the front and back of the block instead of the cheap rubber seals. those go in the trash

i didnt see him plasta gauge the bearings and to much oil on the bolts in my opinion, but we all build them different.

  68. TheJaky1515 Says:

Never use the front or back intake gaskets they leak every time and always tork 10 pounds over stock

  69. TheJaky1515 Says:

You don’t need the csm install tool.or you also don’t need new cam bearings .I have rebuilt 150000 mile motors and the bearings are fine.to much wasting time on stuff you don’t need to do.and that’s a 305 its on the block dude learn to read

dont get me wrong i like v8’s, i have a v8 truck, but my 4 cylinder 240sx is pretty fast, it can easily beat my buddies v8 2002 mustang, those wrx engines can make like 330 hp… 4 cylinder. they are also lighter.

  73. bryannonelee Says:

The Chevy isn’t the only thing that’s had its top end rebuilt

or you could get a “rice” straight 6 RB26 or 2JZ which has a bottom end of 1200HP and you can easily build a 2JZ to a daily drive-able 850HP, or more. i love my v8s but unless it’s an LSx with forged internals you can’t compete with a 2JZ or RB26.

watched a video and found myself hooked to MOTORZ!!! i want this channel. what networks are supporting this show?! SPEED?! booya for the 350. informative and helpful for sure! I have a blown head gasket on a 5.7L 350 any essential information needed aside from what you showed here?

  107. wowzinger Says:

Really? Why do you have to be an ass like that, many of those 4 bangers will kill v8’s, and vice versa. Example 4g63 can make over 1100hp, granted the bigger an engine, the longer and more power it can last, but that does not make it good, power size ratio is what makes an engine great. Example 3l straight 6 2jz-gte, have made over 2000hp still street legal. Respect both sides, btw blame ricers on the owners not the car, and second many drag cars are dumb as hell too… you know

  108. motorztv Says:

Thanks for watching, and getting hooked! Motorz is on various TV networks including The Pursuit Channel on DirecTV and Dish, The Auto Channel, Untamed Sports TV, and My Family TV. You can find more specific information at our website motorz(dot)tv/tv

  109. jowen034 Says:

Be careful because not all 350’s (at least the one that I rebuilt) when aligning the timing gears it wasn’t done at top dead center, rather cylinder six had to be at the top of it’s compression stroke.

  110. joshf238 Says:

When using an extension your supposed to add for the flexing of it. Bout 1# per inches

  111. Klausco7 Says:

Hello, I was just curious about dipping the threaded ends of the bolts in oil. Is that something that the manufacturer specified. I’m an aircraft mechanic and on fasteners we are tought to achieve proper torqe with clean dry threads. No matter if its a reciprocating engine similar to autos of a turbine engine, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer.

  116. hostile77u77 Says:

I have built several sbc and bbc and I am curious about the head bolts in oil also how do you keep the gasket/surfaces free from oil when you insert the bolt? I would think this is a semi dangerous practice i was always told “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”.

  117. Taron84329405 Says:

What was the totall price of re-building this 350 small black?

  118. Taviddude Says:

So, what happened to the tape over the oil hole?

  119. Fallen Trust Says:

Ummmmmm. I think you forgot something. Some of those bolts go right into the water jacket. They need sealant on the threads.

You guys should do a “carburetor’d turbocharged build on a small-block V8 and get her in on it! I really would like to see how to turbo a carburetor’d v8 though, I here there are some things about air pressures within and outside the carb that have be dealt with. Again though, GREAT VID’s KEEP IT UP!

  148. 69avocado Says:

for instance, as you keep upping the power that you could get out of a SBC you have to spend more and more money, maybe spending $400 on a port job for you camel hump heads, getting them rebuilt and have hardened valve seats installed, new valve springs to accommodate whatever cam you run, maybe shaft mount roller rockers and fuel injection, a cheap efi set up would run you about $1300, then there’s another $300 maybe for a cold air intake, maybe machining for clearance with stroker cranks, etc.

And in my opinion you should let Olivia (or whatever she is called) do some technical stuff, in stead of just being there. This is just awkward. Get rid of her, or let her do something real. ;) Great show!

wont all that oil on the head bolts hydraulic and give a false reading at the torque spec, maybe moly lube on one side of the treads will be sufficient enough.

  164. ArkadiusProductions Says:

Either is generally sufficient. One should be careful not to drench the bolts as shown. I’ve seen blocks crack when torquing the head bolts from the oil being trapped beneath. I forget the proper term for that.

agreed. its basic physics. an engine with a higher volume for compression will beat a smaller engine in power. yes there are some 4 cylinders with 800 hp and yes there are some 6 cylinders that can be at 1200 hp but how about v8 drag cars that are over 3000 horsepower easy? the point is yes you can give a lot of power to a 4 cylinder. but if you do the same mods, in proportion to the engine size, to both a 4 cylinder and an 8 cylinder engine. the 8 cylinder engine will win every time.

Did you use the copper spray on the head gaskets too? And when did you remove the tape?

  171. CarattiniGarage Says:

Thanks for the info grate show. But I’ve heard in other vids that in a 350 Small block chevy you don’t put your timing cange with piston #1 at TDC insted you put #6 at comprestion stroke. What is your comment on that?

  172. RICHARD maaske Says:

You should do the torquing with smaller foot lbs . At first, maybe 20 lbs first. than maybe 50lbs. and than 70 lbs.

What about the glow plugs i didn’t see those on the engine?

  178. LEGITDAKINE Says:

Hey, I want to expand my knowledge beyond learning from listening to someone. I’m more of a hands of guy, If I wanted to rebuild/fix an engine, which one would you suggest? I’m not loaded with money and would like to keep the price lower but I want to have an engine I can have pride in and maybe get a profit out of it. Thanks. Also I researched and I read that a 350 small block or a Holden 202 would be the best for a first timer and an engine that is not so complex.

  179. theexpendable11 Says:

@Roxanne2011castillo Spark plugs is the word you are looking for glow plugs are only in diesel.

  184. yambo59 Says:

Love the series, built many SBC myself — and I hate to gripe but ive seen two major mistakes so far, the rear main seal was installed with no lubricant on the seal material, this will damage the seal in startup and may well lead to an oil leak very soon — the second major mistake is he put the head bolts in with oil instead of silicone sealer, in a stock block such as this the head bolts enter the cooling jackets and MUST have silicone sealer on the threads, they come this way fr. factory.

  185. Ryan Hamilton Says:

I think this is a pretty great series! One thing I really want to see done is actual assembly of the cylinder head please! I’m in the process of building my first motor and trying to do it step by step and do it right. Not just throw parts together. I’m sure I’m not the only person unsure of valve guide seals and such and some of the information surrounding the valve train. like where to get those specs and such. Thank you, in any case!

  186. CreepyJeffTheKiller Says:

The swivel messes up the torqus specs lol

  187. JonahMolina Says:

So I’m trying to follow the torque sequence. Would the number 17 bolt be at the very front(nearest to fan) on both sides? Or is the right side order opposite of the left side?

  188. Crackhouts Says:

    Freaking retarded-ass cam timing. . .

  189. weelgunny Says:

Just start in the middle and work outward. All ya gotta know.

  190. JonahMolina Says:

twice TWICE, my felpro bolts broke while I was torquing to 65lbs….. screw felpro seriously.cleaned treds, oiled bolts, torqued 3 step: 25, 45, 65, and *SNAP*. bolt broken.Idk what to do…. I got a truck sitting here and the only head bolt sets the auto stores near me have is felpro….

  191. moyaibarra Says:

What size torque wrench drive have you been using for this build? I’m going to sears soon for a new one

  192. halleffect1 Says:

Some of the head bolt holes extend down into the water jackets. Those head bolts have to have thread sealer…

  193. Motorz Says:

    3/8” Drive

  194. Joe Seely Says:

With todays Chevrolet engines…don’t you have to degree the head bolts in for a more accurate tightening result ?

  195. MegaJohnhammond Says:

what brand of motor oil do you recommend

  196. Motorz Says:

We’ve had good luck with Royal Purple and Mobil 1!

  197. hangurself Says:

If they were using stock style head bolt you are correct, but it looks like they are using aftermarket bolts “possibly ARP” which are not ‘ torque to yeild’ like the stock bolts. My concern is that they didn’t use a sealer style lubricant which ARP and others make because those head bolts go to water. It is highly possible that coolant will now get into the engine.

  198. Raymondo van Klooster Says:

put the bolts in oil? that’s not very smart, the oil will fill up de holes and at modern cars the alluminum will easely crack

  199. speedskiff2 Says:

old schooler prefers using steel head gasket sprayed with silver paint just before install. I’ve found some of those rocker studs thread through into intake port affecting flow. Run studs down and use finger or a light to see if stud is sticking into port. Grind it flush. I’ve seen Mexican blocks where a big bladed screwdriver was used to punch a slot for oil drains to timing case. Block shown has drains bored or could be an old Michigan smog block. I liked watching these videos.

  200. Dartht33bagger Says:

  202. thehossman1 Says:

when you torqued down the heads did you go straight to 70 ft-lb or did you do it in multiple steps? I’ve been told to do it in steps like 35, 50, then 70

  203. thehossman1 Says:

torque-to-yield came around for Gen 3 (LS), not this engine.

  204. abuafra2 Says:

Hi, I rebuilt LT1 350 to 383 keeping the clearances on higher range side.I wanted to use 20-50 oil as it is easily available here opposed to what OEM is calling for (5-30, 10-30). I spun bearings with 5W-30.. so I’m hesitant with low viscosities oilsShould 20-50 be fine? or maybe 60 race oil?

  205. Chris Nicole Says:

  206. gavi15T Says:

Out of my personal experiences, it is much easyier to adjust the valve lash with the intake off.

Does this look like a modern engine?

  211. Conner Lynch Says:

It is false that dipping bolts in oil that are TTY style gives you more accurate torque. It requires a small dab of oil. All of the oil off that bolt that the guy dipped in, went to the bottom of the threads where there is no way of it draining out, when you torque it, the oil in the bottom is compressed and will effect the torque.

  212. Robert L Says:

After watching all the other car shows, I thought you always just tossed out the 350 and picked up a free crate 502 from Chevy.

  213. hangurself Says:

In reply to (thehossman1) comment @ me. Actually, This is a late model SBC they are working on, and yes they did have torque to yield bolts. The LT1 also used torque to yield bolts, and both engines preceded the LS engines.

  218. Jonathan Deduytschaever Says:

hey Chris are you going to do something with this engine?

  219. tlcbear2 Says:

should have use thread sealer not oil water will leak past the head bolts

  220. Justin Ehorn Says:

Tlcbear2 is right always put thread sealer on the head bolts. And whats with the roller cam shouldnt there be a thrust plate or cam button so it doesnt walk?

  221. RJ F Says:

he nicked those cam bearings lol…no way I go that fast.

  222. Dominick John Says:

  224. Eric Wilson Says:

so im workin on an 87 silverado with a 1st gen 350, all i know is it was run without oil, now its knocking, i got a couple lifters that were trouble gettin out, a couple that wont budge, so far i understand that i should replace lifters and cam, but is it really that easy to do a cam?…i though i needed a cam card and special tools and what not?….any tips or knowledge appreciated.

  225. jordan stoltz Says:

If you want to make your life easier, adjust the valve lash before installing the intake manifold. Its way easier. As you spin it to top dead you can actually watch the pushrod compress the lifter while you tighten the rockers. (if it’s not a solid lifter engine that is).

  226. roni almasi Says:

2:20 : insert the cam slowly and carefully..

  227. uguzg uzfgvuzjh Says:

  230. wgoldenny Says:

  231. wgoldenny Says:

must be a craftsman engine stand it’s starting to draw downward good thing it was not a big block

  232. sokodad Says:

Curious why he didn’t go with a set of roller rockers too since they put roller cam in and Dart heads? Spend the extra on the rockers too. Just my opinion I guess.

  233. Randy Smith Says:

    its was a great experience

  234. ronald wood Says:

Im sorry I just couldent get any work done around her she is very distracting.

  235. Ben Thompson Says:

Why even reuse those heads? Should have grabbed some vortec heads and get some real power

  236. Bill Haskins Says:

What about sealant on the head bolts ???

  237. guywhodoesstuff123 Says:

Do those head bolts not need sealant on them?

  238. EpiDemic117 Says:

all of these chevy pushrod motors are extremely easy to work on. They are pretty much lego block motors. Lots of shit is interchangeable between them and they are easy as hell to service. parts are also EVERYWHERE. OHC engines require lot more skill to work on especially when doing the timing chain or belt + valve adjustment since there is a lot more valves on a DOHC engine.
