I was reading about the InAWorld App over at another one of my sites, Appmodo, and I was intrigued by the review that one of our writers did (Jake Wright). The screen-shots looked a bit lame, but I decided to give it a shot just for fun since I do a tiny bit of voice-over work myself, and I’ve always been a fan of the pros, especially Don LaFontaine (RIP!).
I had never heard of Jonathan Cook before downloading this iPhone App and giving it a shot, and I have to say I’m impressed with not just his voice but also the App itself. You select from a bunch of canned VO lines, select photos that are on your iPhone, and through a series of steps you end up telling a story, narrated by voiceover talent Jonathan Cook. Yes, this was created entirely on my iPhone, using nothing more than existing photos. Everything else was supplied by the App.
It actually works quite well. See for yourself:
My only complaint is that you can’t easily share the output. I had to do some screen capturing wizardry with Camtasia in order to capture it the way I wanted to, and even then the quality suffered a bit. You can share it via email, but it requires the App to view it. Even on a Mac or PC you have to download the software to watch it, and there’s no pause, no ability to save, no feature to share to Facebook, YouTube, etc. Hopefully the developers will fix that. It was a lot of work just to get it on YouTube so I could embed it here.
The funny thing is, I wanted to do something exactly like this for Season 3 but never got around to it. With this iPhone App, it’s brain-dead easy!
Watch my silly test video above, then read the InAWorld..DRAMA review, and if you want to play with it — buy it!
And it’s no lie… season 4 of Motorz starts this summer… the 4th of July!
