Just finished installing a new head unit in my ’06 F150. I used your video as a guide on how to do it. I’m glad I saw your video, but you made it look deceptively easy. “Popping” the “surround” out was NOWHERE near as easy as you showed it to be. I nearly snapped the thing in half, but took my time and finally got it out (barely). You also skipped where you wire the harness to the radio, which took me forever. Otherwise, thanks because I probably wouldn’t have tried it without your video.

  12. NoobFightClub Says:

was easy in my honda crv, maybe in other kids its harder but mine was no problem

  13. John Kekkt Says:

Why does the Alpine software work only on Windows? There needs to be a Mac version. Easy John

  14. TheOriginalChinaMan Says:

@calky360 the 502 is not compatible with the blackbird gps in euorpe

  15. Smitty6123 Says:

What was the total cost for everything that you installed today? Alpine, the satellite, backup camera, etc. all of it together

Found your site while looking up car stuff, I love how you have integrated the Video’s into your template and also the cool way they are produced! clear and informative. I fear with my Scottish accent and poor camera Skills if I did a video it would just confuse people! haha

  19. Johnrodgers100 Says:

i installed this same head unit in my own f150 but i couldnt figure out how to fill the gaps between the new unit since it is smaller, is there someone that sells a plastic bezel peice to fill it?

  20. ramanbawa Says:

Question: How did you power up the alpine sirius adapter? did you hook it up straight to the battery or did you connect it off the wire that is powering the head unit?

  21. motorztv Says:

@ramanbawa It gets its power from the Alpine HU so there’s only one power source needed!

  22. djrg68 Says:

can you give me the links to the crutfield stuff?

  23. philly224life Says:

would this system fit in a 2010 jeep wrangler unlimited?

  24. motorztv Says:

@philly224life If you have a double DIN stock stereo, I’m sure you can get a dash kit for it, probably from Crutchfield.

  25. 13lokonmok Says:

    how much does it cost?

  26. 13lokonmok Says:

    how much does it cost?

  27. motorztv Says:

@13lokonmok Google it. There are a lot of retailers that sell it!

  28. motorztv Says:

@philly224life It will if you have a double DIN and you can find a dash kit for it from Crutchfield

  29. mike Says:

  30. NewPortCity09 Says:

  31. Dave Smith Says:

Anyone know any retailers located up north?

  32. Sw1nford Says:

did the back up cam come with the unit? if not what brand is it? i have a jvc in my f150 and want to set up the back up cam the same way you did but am having trouble finding one similar

  33. motorztv Says:

@Sw1nford the backup cam did not come with the head unit. It was an eBay purchase. I don’t recall what brand it was, but any of them should work just fine.

  34. MrPudding28 Says:

I want to replace my alpine interface with a new one because the one i have now doesn’t have a audio in or usb. can i buy a new one and just snap it in the cd player i have now?

  41. LeakyDiaper Says:

Skipped the hardest part, snaking the wires through the doors.

  42. motorztv Says:

Soldering with heat shrink tubing is always the best way, but sometimes it’s impossible to get to those wires to solder them (like up inside the dash). We’ve used butt-connectors and Posi-Taps for years and we’ve never had issues with them, but we always recommend you take your time and do it right with solder.

  43. LeakyDiaper Says:

You always run the possibility of heat traveling to the cone and melting glue or damaging the coil. I never solder to speakers. And if you end up with a cold solder joint, vibration will work it loose and it will sound like a short when you hit bumps.

Man, that system hits hard even through the camera microphone. I can only imagine what it sounds like in person. I got an 1140 watt system in my stang with 2 tens and 6 amps in the trunk (mach 1000) but, I haven’t been 19 4 a long time now so, the volume never goes past half way these days & the mach button doesn’t get pressed. LOL getting old sucks

This man makes some of the best instructional videos ever. But on this and the ford mustang Gt audio upgrade he doesn’t show how wire the crossovers, amps,. How to wire the dual amps to the head unit. wire the speakers and sub to the amps. Thats the most difficult part of puting a audio system in a car!
